I love being a musician. I may complain about it from time to time, but once I get up on that stage and start playing… it all goes away. I get in the zone and find my harmonies, feel the rhythm, and let my fingers glide over the strings. It is as close to magic as I can imagine.
So what do I have to complain about? It’s all silly little things, if I’m being honest, but the biggest one is the weather. We live in the Sunshine Capital of the US, and that means plenty of outdoor venues to play at. That also means we have to deal with last-minute cancellations- a lot. There’s not much that bums me out quite like arriving at a venue, starting to set up, and feeling that first fat raindrop. Water and electronics don’t mix, so it’s a rush to load our stuff back in the car or under the cover. Canceled. Ouch. It’s a blow to the ego AND the wallet.
I have to remind myself that this is only for a short season. The weather will go back to being dry and sunny. We’ll get back to playing our gigs and all will be right in our little world… until next rainy season.
